Burr leads all challengers by wide margins
Strong performance by incumbent will help down ballot Republicans in 2010
A new Rasmussen Reports survey of North Carolinians shows incumbent Republican United States Senator Richard Burr leading all of his potential challengers by at least 10 points.
Senator Burr leads his declared challengers, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall by a 48 – 38 margin and Durham attorney Kenneth Lewis by an even greater 48 – 32 margin.
58% of North Carolinians have a favorable opinion of Senator Burr compared to only 26% of respondents expressing an unfavorable opinion of the Senator. This is a strong performance especially when compared to Governor Perdue’s abysmal poll numbers that show a meager 29% of North Carolinians approving of her job performance.
A popular well-liked incumbent Senator leading the ticket in 2010 will help all Republicans on the ballot and will be a significant lift to Republican efforts to retake the State Senate.
