N.C. Unemployment Remains Above 10 Percent

Raleigh, N.C. – The North Carolina Employment Security Commission announced today that the state’s unemployment rate was unchanged in September remaining at 10.8 percent.  North Carolina’s unemployment rate has been worse than the national average for more than a year.

Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement:

“While Governor Perdue is on her trip abroad, we are learning that she has done nothing at home to boost job creation more than nine months into her term.  We need a fundamental change in our philosophy and approach to job creation.  Building a strong, sustainable economy for the future will require state and local governments return to basics by building a solid infrastructure, creating a favorable tax climate for business growth and job creation, and focusing on providing quality public education.  North Carolina should be a leader in job creation but we need a new philosophy to get there.”
