Perdue Pursuing Erratic Economic Policy
Cannot Hope for New Jobs While We Destroy Jobs at Home
Raleigh, N.C. – Governor Beverly Perdue has spent the last two days in New York City attempting to recruit to North Carolina financial firms who are looking to relocate or open new businesses in other states.
“Gov. Beverly Perdue traveled to New York City Wednesday for a corporate- and job-recruiting expedition. ‘We need efforts like this in this environment,’ Perdue told Triangle Business Journal in a phone interview. ‘And I am good at it.’” (Lee Weisbecker, Triangle Business Journal, 9/30/09)
North Carolina’s unemployment rate remains at nearly 11 percent, well above the national average. During the last legislative session, Governor Perdue and legislative Democrats raised taxes by $990 million, taxes that are being felt by every North Carolina taxpayer and business.
Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement:
“Governor Perdue continues her erratic behavior this week going on a corporate recruiting trip after she did everything in her power during the last legislative session to make it more difficult to do business and find a job in North Carolina. Democratic policymakers continue the tax-and-spend economic policy that is killing jobs in North Carolina. Do they really hope to draw new businesses from outside our state? Until Democrats reverse course, reduce state government spending, and provide tax relief to businesses and families, North Carolina will continue to see jobs leave.”
