Tangible Results Needed on Job Creation
Although Governor Perdue talked about job creation during her campaign last fall, her office is not claiming to have stimulated job creation since she was sworn in. To do so would be incredulous in light of the fact that the unemployment rate has climbed more than one percent since January and has remains well above the national average. In fact, more than 69,000 people who were working in North Carolina when Governor Perdue took office are now out of work. Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement:
“We have heard enough talk about job creation from Governor Perdue. Other than continuing the policies that have led to the loss of those 69,000 jobs, what is her plan? When the Governor returns from her trip, North Carolinians should expect to see results or at least implementation of a new course of action geared to enabling job creation in North Carolina’s economy.”
