Time for New Economic Development Philosophy
North Carolina Should be Hub for Business & Jobs
Raleigh, N.C. – As Governor Perdue embarks on her overseas trip in pursuit of economic development for North Carolina, now is a good time to re-examine the economic philosophy that is driving state policy and has lead to an unemployment rate of 10.8 percent, well above the national average.
Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement:
“One thing that Governor Perdue should bring back on her trip is a new philosophy for creating jobs. North Carolina is enduring a deeper recession and more job losses than our neighbors because Governor Perdue and her Democratic allies in the General Assembly are holding back economic development with high taxes and policies that are unwelcoming to new businesses. With the resources our state possesses and the ingenuity of our people, the only thing holding our state back from being a hub for business is leaders who lack the vision for job creation and the will to provide relief to families and small businesses struggling through this recession.”
