Poole Indictment Demonstrates Need for Ethics Reform
Raleigh, N.C. – Ruffin Poole, close aide to former Governor Mike Easley and a man referred to as Easley’s “go to guy,” was indicted on 51 counts of corruption today. The indictment was the first to result from a lengthy, ongoing federal probe into alleged corruption within the Easley administration.
Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) made the following statement:
“Today’s indictment shows just how widespread corruption has been in state government as well as just how deeply it has infected the innermost circles of power. We cannot afford to let this level of corruption go unchecked. Governor Perdue and her Democratic colleagues in the General Assembly must finally heed the calls for ethics reform from Republicans and stamp out corruption in state government once and for all.”
