Carolina Strategy Group: Century of control in Democratic Senate clearly at risk
CSG polling projects potential dramatic change in N.C. Senate
RALEIGH — The most recent Carolina Opinion Survey indicates that North Carolina voters favored giving Republicans a chance to lead the North Carolina Senate by a margin of 46 to 38 percent – a significant development in the final months of the political season.
While the November elections are still more than three months away, the political polling trend lines continue to signal a strong Republican showing. Given the anti-incumbent sentiment national Democrats face as the party in power, the preference for change has become a significant factor facing state senate Democrats.
The Carolina Strategy Group poll posed this question: For more than 100 years, the state Senate has been controlled by the Democratic Party. Do you believe voters should continue to elect a Democratic majority or do you think it is time to give North Carolina Republicans a chance to lead the state senate?
By an eight percent margin, voters demonstrated a strong preferential trend for GOP candidates. In fact, supporting data depict an even stronger trend line for the GOP at the state senate level.
The detailed results showed that 88 percent of Republican voters preferred a change in state senate leadership compared to 71 percent of Democratic voters who favored a Democratic Senate majority. Only 15 percent of Democratic voters favored a Republican majority.
This poll is the eleventh in a series of 2010 Carolina Opinion Surveys that reflect voter preferences into voter opinions affecting North Carolina political issues. Overall, these polls indicate a significant trend line favoring GOP challengers in many key districts across North Carolina. …
