How the West Will Be Won
Three Republican “Young Guns” Bring a Pro-Jobs Message to Western North Carolina
The Republican bid to win the State Senate majority for the first time since the days of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid may hinge on four races in western North Carolina. Last week we introduced you to Jim Davis, candidate in NC Senate District 50. Today we introduce three “Young Guns” who are carrying the conservative banner in western North Carolina: Warren Daniel, Dan Soucek, and Ralph Hise.
Warren Daniel is running to replace retiring Republican Senator Jim Jacumin in District 44 (Caldwell and Burke counties). Warren is a Burke County native and West Point graduate. After serving as an officer for six years, he returned to North Carolina to attend law school at UNC, where he graduated with honors in 2000. Since then he’s practiced law with his father at their family firm in Morganton.
Warren is not a politician. He’s a concerned citizen who is standing up and speaking out against the mushrooming state government: “North Carolina is run by career politicians who mismanage our state’s resources and raise taxes year after year. This cycle of tax-and-spend is not sustainable. And it must be stopped. We cannot continue sacrificing the future of our children and grandchildren by mortgaging tomorrow to pay for today.”
Dan Soucek is the Republican candidate for NC Senate in District 45 (Alexander, Ashe, Watauga, and Wilkes counties). He’s running against Democratic incumbent Steve Goss. In a serendipitous twist of fate, Dan was a classmate of Warren Daniel at West Point. They graduated together in 1991. Now they’re on the same team in neighboring districts!
Dan is also political outsider who’s calling for government restraint, responsibility, and reform: “The voters of western North Carolina can go from being all but ignored by Raleigh, to having the power to fire the liberal elites in Raleigh and hire a pro-jobs, pro-family Republican leadership. The outcome of this election will reverberate throughout North Carolina — and even the country for the next decade.”
Ralph Hise, a “mountain man with mountain values,” is challenging Sen. Joe Sam Queen in NC Senate District 47 (Avery, Haywood, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, and Yancey counties). He is serving his second term as mayor of Spruce Pine, NC. At 33 years old, Ralph would be the youngest member serving in the NC Senate.
Like our other “Young Guns,” Ralph is fighting to bring a new approach, fresh ideas, and a pro-jobs agenda to the State Senate: “We need to increase jobs and opportunities by lowering tax rates, not raise taxes by a billion dollars like Senator Queen supported just last year. The backbone of our economy is small business, and we must create an atmosphere for them to develop and thrive, rather than be taxed to death. We must look to reduce government.”
