In a Carolina Opinion Survey poll released today, Republican challenger Ralph Hise opened up a 12-point lead on Democratic incumbent Sen. Joe Sam Queen in NC Senate District 47 — an increase of 8 points since June. Most tellingly, Joe Sam Queen’s favorable/unfavorable numbers are spiraling downward: 38/51 (fav/unfav) in this poll.  His favorable/unfavorable numbers are in free-fall among Republicans and Unaffiliated voters:

  • 23/59 – Fav/Unfav among Republicans in June
  • 17/71 – Fav/Unfav among Republicans in September
  • 29/43 – Fav/Unfav among Unaffiliateds in June
  • 32/57 – Fav/Unfav among Unaffiliateds in September

The poll analysis concludes, “Significantly, Hise leads Queen 51-31 among Unaffiliated voters.”

“There is still a lot of time between now and the November election, but for now it appears that voters in western North Carolina are in the mood for new leadership in the 47th Senate District.”
