REDistricting MAjority Project (REDMAP): 17 State Legislative Chambers in Play, Including the NC House and Senate

In the September report by REDMAP, the Republican Party has majorities in the North Carolina House and Senate clearly within reach.

REDMAP (REDistricting Majority Project), a program of the RSLC (Republican State Leadership Committee), is dedicated to winning state legislative seats that will have a critical impact on congressional redistricting in 2011. 2010 is especially important in North Carolina because the General Assembly controls redistricting in both congressional and legislative districts; the Governor does not have veto power over either the NC Senate or House plans. And — for the first time in over a century — the Republican Party has a realistic shot at winning both legislative chambers.

What does the report say specifically about North Carolina?

  1. The NC House is listed as a “pick up” — one of the six chambers REDMAP has in the Republican column.
  2. The NC Senate is listed as “solidly in play” — one of eleven additional chambers up for grabs.

Interestingly, in the analsysis of the NC Senate, REDMAP lists 12 seats in play with Republicans leading in 7 of them (according to public polls). The GOP needs to win six seats to capture the majority.

It would seem to me that the NC Senate should be bumped up to “pick up” status!

Help us do just that: contribute today to the NC Republican Senate Committee, CLOSE THE GAP, and help challengers in the 12 battleground districts reach the finish line first!
