Perdue Denies Unemployment Benefits to 37,000

Gov. Beverly Perdue’s office said she plans to veto legislation today that preserved unemployment benefits for thousands of North Carolina families and prevented her from shutting down state government if she vetoes the state budget. Below is a statement from Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger:
“Republicans voted to extend unemployment benefits and prevent a government shutdown, but the governor is too addicted to state spending to support either of those efforts. She should be ashamed of herself.”
