The Truth About the Budget
I wanted to take a moment to update you about our efforts in the NC Senate on your behalf and to ask for your support.
My colleagues in the Senate and I recently released our budget – a roadmap that puts our state back on a pathway to prosperity and cleans up the mess Democrats have made in Raleigh without raising your taxes.
I’m sure over the last few weeks you have heard a number of claims about the budget and its impact. But did the media mention to you that the Democrats’ plan would raise taxes in North Carolina by $800 million?
Unfortunately, Republicans in the NC Senate cannot rely on the major media outlets across the state to give you all the facts. That’s why I am asking for your support today.
For our efforts to be successful, we have to educate and inform your friends and neigbors about the truth behind this responsible and effective budget.
And here’s the truth:
- Our $19.3 billion plan is more than $1 billion less than last year’s bloated budget. We are right-sizing state government, making it smaller and more productive.
- Education is the cornerstone of a strong economy, and our plan focuses spending in the classroom, not on non-essential and redundant administrative positions. North Carolina cannot continue throwing money at a broken system that produces graduation rates that rank 43rd in the nation.
- Our proposal of $4,800 per student is only $200 less than the governor’s plan of $5,000 per student. Democrats claim we’re “dismantling” education. They’re pretty good at hyperbole, but dreadful at math.
Unfortunately, Democrats would rather raise your taxes by $85 per person than make the hard choices needed to put North Carolina back on the path of fiscal responsibility.
Your donation today of $25 or $50 will help us send over 250 mail pieces to voters in North Carolina to tell them the truth about the Senate’s budget proposals.
Please consider sending in any amount that you can afford to help us tell voters the truth that the liberal media won’t.
Sen. Phil Berger
