Senate Democrats Unanimously Reject Perdue/Dalton Economic ‘Plan’
The Senate unanimously rejected Gov. Beverly Perdue and Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton’s plan to raise taxes by nearly $1 billion on all North Carolinians.
The Senate voted on an amendment to the Senate’s budget adjustment that would have hiked the sales tax by $950 million per year. Every single Democrat senator joined with Republicans to defeat the amendment.
“It is clear the Perdue/Dalton tax plan is nothing more than an election year gimmick to allow Democrats to speak out of both sides of their mouth,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-Rockingham). “The fact that every single member of the Senate voted against the tax hike shows what a bad idea it is.”
